Coaching FAQs

What does a coach do?
Coaches help their clients identify and articulate their motivations and desires. They develop strategies to overcome roadblocks. And help them step outside of their comfort zones to get what they want faster.

Coaches also:

  • Help organize your thoughts
  • Assist with forming a plan
  • Collaborate with you on ideas
  • Hold you accountable

A coach helps you connect the dots of your life looking forward, instead of backward.

What is coaching?
Coaching addresses you as a whole person, answering two questions: "What do you want?" and "What stops you?" Coaching trains you on how to answer those questions for yourself. It also focuses on who you are being, and what you're doing in your life. Finally, coaching helps figure out the steps to take to get you there.

Coaching happens within a supportive coaching structure. This is where we'll design the best way I can support you. This structure helps you achieve a higher level of performance in a much shorter period of time.

Effective coaching also crystallizes your vision and holds you accountable.

How can coaching help me?
A supportive coaching structure helps you gain new perspectives. And creates desired results through improved behavior and performance.

Why do people hire and work with coaches?
We all need support and structure to achieve our goals. Coaching keeps us responsible for taking action.

Can't I coach myself?
Few people have the ability to motivate and course correct themselves on their goals. Working with a coach helps them reach a higher level of achievement — in a much shorter period of time.

What's the difference between coaching and consulting?
Coaches provide support andstructure. And help think about what options to consider and what solutions are appropriate. Consultants tell you what to do based on your situation.

Does it mean I'm inadequate if I hire a coach?
Working with a coach means you've decided to succeed — and get there faster then if you worked alone. Coaches challenge and inspire you to be better.

Is coaching expensive?
Coaching is an investment — in yourself. And you're the best investment you can make.

How much time will this take?
Your level of commitment will equal your level of success. The price is the time needed to do what's necessary to improve. Many people like having the regular weekly or monthly calls. Others want the coach on retainer as part of their team.

How long is a coaching session?
Plan on 30-45 minutes per session, longer in the beginning. In-between calls, keep in touch via email. Coaches want to know your progress and wins! They'll also answer any questions you may have.

Coach or Mentor?
Before hiring either, understand the key differences between coaching and mentoring.
